dc.description.abstractA Community Based Participatory Action Research (CBPAR) was conducted on; “Socioeconomic factors contributing to primary school dropout in Nyakabira Village, Isunga subcounty, Kagadi district”. Its objectives were; to find out the primary school dropout rate, identify social and economic factors contributing to primary school dropout and propose interventions for eliminating primary school dropout in Nyakabira village. Participants included 17 teachers of three primary schools, 83 pupils in upper primary (P.5-P.7) who are in three schools neighbouring Nyakabira village, 65 parents with school-going children in Nyakabira village and those with school dropouts, 23 school dropouts, 3 local leaders, and 3 opinion leaders. The methods used included; Focus Group Discussions, key informants’ interviews, observation, document analysis and Visionary Approach. The findings of the study revealed that; the primary school dropout rate in Nyakabira village was 15.59% in the year 2024. the social factors contributing to primary school dropout in Nyakabira Village include; domestic violence 20%, poor performance 20%, parental negligence 18%, etcetera. The economic factors being; lack of school fees 51%, lack of basic necessities 40% and misuse of funds got from sugarcane and coffee 9%. The suggested measures to end primary school dropout are; income generating projects, eliminating all fees in UPE schools, special coaching for slow learners, sensitization on gender roles, training in sustainable agriculture, educating both parents and pupils about the school rules and regulations, sensitizing both parents and pupils about the dangers of early marriage, early pregnancy and domestic violenceen_US
